How to pass the Nebraska knowledge test

  1. Read the handbook. Every question comes from the official Nebraska manuals; the handbook page links to the agency's own copies.
  2. Practice test by test. Each numbered test mixes Nebraska law with the national road rules, like the real exam.
  3. Read every explanation. Especially for answers you got right by guessing.
  4. Simulate the real exam on the category page when you pass the tests comfortably.

Nebraska written test format

Test Questions Pass mark Minimum age
Car 25 20 correct (5 mistakes allowed) 15 years for a Learner's Permit (LPD); 17 years for a Class O license
Motorcycle 25 20 correct (5 mistakes allowed) 17 years for a Class M license
CDL 50 40 correct (10 mistakes allowed) 18 years for intrastate commerce; 21 years for interstate commerce

Car. The Nebraska DMV Driver Licensing and Examining Policies and Procedures Manual states that the Class O written test has 25 questions and that the applicant may miss no more than 5, and that a minimum score of 80 percent is required on all written tests. A School Learner's Permit (LPE) is available from age 14 for students who qualify for a School Permit.

Motorcycle. The same DMV policies and procedures manual states that the motorcycle written test has 25 questions, that the applicant may miss no more than 5 and that the passing score is 80 percent. Applicants under 18 must first hold a Provisional Operator's Permit for at least 12 months. Completing an approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation course within the past 24 months waives both the written and the drive test.

CDL. The DMV policies and procedures manual lists the CDL general knowledge test as 50 questions with no more than 10 missed. The Nebraska CDL manual lists the minimum age as 21 for interstate and 18 for intrastate operation. A Commercial Learner's Permit must be held for at least 14 days before the skills test.
